Say, with Whatsapp Web, I am able to download a video from my Whatsapp.  It saves as a file without a recognisable extension. How do I convert this to upload it to Facebook?

Run a program like ffmpeg or mediainfo on one of your files + you'll know the file type + then you can just rename the file + add the correct extension.

Or you can take a chance + just rename it as a .mp4 or .mkv + see if it plays in a video player.

Some players like VLC + Movist, will take any file you give + introspect into the file to discover if the container + audio codec + video codec make sense + then play your video, if they understand the format.

In this case, you can use the inspect tool in either to determine the container.

Likely either .mp4 or .mkv will be the container type.

Or... if Whatsapp downloads videos without transcoding them, then the container/codecs will be uneffected.

If this is the case (might be), then just check the source site of videos + likely they publish there container/codec info.

I personally just run ffmpeg on videos, which gives this info instantly.

Can you elaborate your question properly?

You download videos as .MP4 format. and you can easily upload directly to to Facebook website.

if you need automated process. you need  to some third part software.

Along the lines of what Ganesh asked...

Just add .mp4 to one of the videos + upload it to Facebook. If this works, then you're done.
