Advise on cleaning up photos

Hi experts , my client wants to clean up a nas drive with approximately 900gb , about 450GB are duplicates.
A program we have looked at is  duplicate photo cleaner. The customer has to manually go through the duplicates.

anyone had experience with this and would they recommend this or another?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There are a lot of duplicate file finder applicaions out there some free some not.
I have not personally used "Duplicate Photo Cleaner" however i would recommend to test on a small sample on a local drive first.

I would find one that gives you a report of the duplicates then script the removal, if the account your running the app under has delete rights and there is something malicious in the software your taking a chance.

Search for a File DeDuplicator which runs on your client's OS.

There are many for Linux + OSX which work great.

Likely also many for Windows.
here a list of best tools :
and as said - don't just run the program on automatic
have the user control it -  i've done it myself, and deleted losts of files too many....
so be careful - AND have a backup first
i also suggest to split it in to parts - so not try to clean everything in one go

Based on many years of use and having processed over 2 million pictures I strongly recommend DPEG.
You can safely use auto-deletion in MD5 Hash mode. (MD5 Hash is better than CRC32 Checksum).
If you are a bit wary of letting DPEG auto-delete, you can manually view each match
and choose which one to delete by pressing 1 or 2.

The bad news is that development stopped at Windows 7 (but I use it with Windows 10)
You cannot buy a license at the moment (possibly never) ... but that doesn't matter to you .....
Trial mode is fully functional for ever with only some database limitations.

The database function is for storing pattern or colour scans for future comparative scans
(which are slower the quick MD5)
but even if you have a trustworthy autodeleter - it never hurts to have a full backup ...
