Windows 10 with dialup modem
New HP Laptop, Windows 10, i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive, a dial up modem and a little old lady on a fixed budget...
Build 10.0.16299 - fully updated with windows update (through my broadband).
I agreed to help a little old lady with a new computer, but she uses AOL dialup for her internet. Fixed budget and they are 1/4 the price of cable or AT&T and she checks emails and does a little facebook - speed is not an issue.
However, I have tried three different USB external modems and can not get any of them to work with window 10. I got one to dial, negotiate, but never connect. I have downloaded windows 10 drivers from vendor site, installed them as an admin and run in compatibility mode. I don't know what else to try.
Has anyone had any luck with a dial up modem on windows 10 and if so, what modem did you find that worked consistently?

I did some looking on your behalf and will continue to look. However all I saw was a litany of problems as you pose that suggests that Windows 10 does not really support dial up any more. Noting I saw says for sure their product will work.

I ordered yet another modem that claims to work with windows 10 and will try it. It should arrive tomorrow.
Please keep us posted and the brand of the modem if it works.

The modem worked it was my phone line that did not work with the modem.
