From Office 365 to hybrid/on premises

I have an Office 365 set of email accounts and want to add an on-premises server/domain controller.

I can see lots of instructions for moving existing on-premises AD users to Azure, but I can't see if there is a way of using the Office 365 users as a basis for an in house AD syncing with the cloud.

Any help appreciated

steps:
create onpremise AD or you might have existing AD
Add your O365 SMTP domain as UPN suffix with onpremise AD
Create accounts with onpremise AD with matching UPN same as cloud
Ex: cloud UPN:user@contoso.com, create same user in onpremise Ad
Then install Azure AD Connect with onpremise Ad
then sync these accounts with cloud with ad connect and your cloud only identities will get converted to synced IDs , meaning u can use onpremise IDs for o365 access
