Change Office 365 email address for AD synced Office 365 account

My organization has Server 2016 Active Directory sync with Office 365 in the cloud.

User's Office 365 email addresses use the same Server 2016 Active Directory passwords that are used to logon to the user's computers.

Some of the users are remote and don't have Active Directory joined computers.

Are there any ways for users to change their Office 365 email addresses using Outlook Web App (OWA) or other methods?

In the past I have tried changing user's email addresses within OWA but haven't been able to do so.

Are there any settings or changes that need to be made to allow this?

You need to use a MDM solution if you do not want to buy AAD Premium licence.

"Use Active Directory Self Service Pro by ManageEngine to give users who used to use on prem OWA a way of changing their password without being on the domain."

ManageEngine MDM is free below 25 users.

An Azure active directory premium subscription can do this. Password writeback and self service password reset are both AAD premium features that tie in nicely with Aadconnect syncing.

Sorry, you want to change email aliases, or password?

We want to be able to change the email address password. Currently we don't have this AAD premium feature.

So what options do we have for changing an Office 365 email address password for an AD synced Office 365 email account?

I basically presented you the option you have. Buy AAD Premium licenses.
