What throws me is how can the display be 13.9 inch and Dimensions (W x D x H) be 12.72"

13.9" is Diagonal Screen size.

This can be the reason. side by side width is always less than Diagonal Screen size.

For below 15.6" (Diagonal Screen size)  laptop,  side by side width size is about 13.6".

Why? Not the whole area of the screen is the display. A picture below tells you the thick edge with height of 1.685 inch of the display will not show anything except black colour.

Is the reason that the market screen size is 13.9 inch = a diameter

The physical size LxW is smaller than the diag?
