What throws me is how can the display be 13.9 inch and Dimensions (W x D x H) be 12.72"

What throws me is how can the display be 13.9 inch and Dimensions (W x D x H) be 12.72"

Why? Not the whole area of the screen is the display. A picture below tells you the thick edge with height of 1.685 inch of the display will not show anything except black colour.
