"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

When you say you changed to Windows for a brief time, what do you mean? Did you uninstall Ubuntu and install Windows, or do you have a dual boot installation, or what?
Did you test the printer itself?
1 .Turn off the printer.
2. Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in.
3. Hold down the Go button as you turn on the power switch. Keep the Go button pressed down until the Toner, Drum and Error LEDs light up. 4. Release the Go button. Make sure that the Toner, Drum and Error LEDs are off.
5. Press the Go button again. The printer will print a Test page.
If you get the printout, you can be focused on the driver troubleshooting.

How is the printer connected - USB or WiFi? If WiFi, can you ping it? If USB, does lsusb show it? If you delete the (USB) printer in Ubuntu and then plug it in, does Ubuntu see it?

What have you done to try and make it work again? If you switch back to Windows (assuming dual boot), does it then still work?

Perarduaadastra:   what I mean is I have a habit of switching OSes. I had the Brother printer working in Ubuntu and I switched to Windows 7 for some forgotten reason.  I got annoyed by something in Windows and I switched back to using  Ubuntu.  Unfortunately I forget and had not written down how I got the printer to work.  Now I'm just running around trying to find the website that had my printer working.  There's no great need to print anything..  Now it's almost a game of tryingto make it work again.

Bocevski Nikola: I will try that today.

:hdhondt: I will try yours today also.
