Can't install .net 3.5 SP1 on Windows 7

I need to upgrade Sage50 on a Windows 7 Pro workstation and it asks for .net 3.5 sp1, however, when starting the executable it does not do anything. I have removed the .net 4.2 but I can't seem to get the 3.5 installed, have downloaded many times from the web. Any ideas?

I would install .net 3.5 right after installing Windows (before installing anything else) ,

The other thing you might try, in addition to my earlier suggestion is to open Control Panel, Programs and Features, Windows Features.

Uncheck the main .NET Framework settings, close out, restart the computer, go back, enable .NET Framework, close out, restart again and run Windows Updates.

If NET Framework 3.5.1 is not listed in the Turn Windows features on or off then you might need to do  Windows Repair install using a Windows media.
