I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Highlight with mouse, Edit Copy and then paste elsewhere. This assumes the PDF was created with readable text. If not you can convert with OCR tools into readable text.

John's comment is spot-on, but I thought that a short video tutorial of the technique would be helpful for you — here it is:

As John mentioned above, and as I demonstrated in the video, you cannot copy-paste text from an image-only PDF — in that case, there is no text to copy-paste. And, unfortunately, the free Adobe Reader does not have OCR — the full Acrobat products, both Standard and Professional, have it, as do many other products, such as Nuance's PaperPort and Power PDF, but those are all non-free products. If you'd like to perform OCR on a PDF with a free product, this 5-minute EE video Micro Tutorial shows how:

P.S. The short video that I did for this question mentions "an article I wrote" on free OCR...I misspoke on that...should have said "a video I recorded" on free OCR.

OK, I see your new question. I'll answer that one and explain how to remove the "secured" from it.

Thanks. If the document is secured by the originator then you cannot copy it. Ask them
