Windows 10 keeps changing my default app for pdf files to microsoft edge

Have a computer running windows 10.  Everytime i unzip a file that has a PDF file, windows 10 will change the default viewing app to Microsft edge.  I can change it so that the default app is adobe reader, and I can continue to open pdf files with adobe reader until I unzip a pdf file and then it reverts back to microsoft edge.

Has anyone had this issue and how did you resolve it?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try below solution from Adobe:

Right-click on a PDF file >> Open With >> Choose default program… >>  Select Adobe reader

Make sure "Always use this app to open .pdf files" is selected.

If you have already tried above suggestion then Please create a new user account and switch into it,  then change the Default PDF file association to Adobe and check if it can keep it in new user environment.

Ramin > I have tried everywhich way I can to change the default permanently.  It just doesn't keep it once I unzip a pdf file.  I even tried your suggestion to create a new  user account.  It still changed the default app for my pdfs to Microsoft edge.

It Sounds like the Default associations configuration file in Windows has a corrupted registry key.

Select Start, and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.
Make sure you are connected to the internet then Copy and paste below command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Hit Enter.

I suggest Windows 10  Repair Install with an In-place Upgrade as your last option and if no suggestions from other experts worked for you.

Unzipping does nothing to file associations, why should it? Unless we are talking about a real weird unzipping program. Are you using windows' own unzipping mechanism, or which is it?
Also please add versions for adobe reader and windows 10.
