How can I run Windwows 10 Pro 46-bit from a bootable USB drive ?

I want to work on Windows 10 that is booted/loaded from a bootable USB rather than the internal HDD ..

Windows To Go is a feature of enterprise editions that legally allows this. You cannot do it with Pro.

This link shows how to install Windows on a portable USB drive. I think it also can also be used for Windows 10.

Considering 93 percent of companies file for bankruptcy within 12 months of a disaster that blocked access to their data for 10 days or more, planning for the worst is just smart business. Learn how Acronis Backup integrates security at every stage

For creation, you need a pro or enterprise edition (pro can create, too), but the ISO file you use needs to be enterprise.
You find windows to go in control panel, simply type "windows to go" in your start menu. The rest is self explanatory. However, you need to know that not all hardware is supported to be used as USB drive. is a list by Microsoft, however, some items might not even be available for sale anymore, for example the mentioned "Western Digital My Passport Enterprise".

Some devices work with the windows to go wizard, although they are not on the list.  The windows to go wizard simply checks a bit inside the hardware to determine if it's suitable. Someone recommended this device to me and indeed the windows to go wizard takes it and it works excellent at an unbeatable price: CSL – M.2 SSD Hard Drive Enclosure - it can be equipped with any m.2 drive that fits in length and width.
Why it's not certified - I don't know. Does Microsoft judge durability before certifying - likely. But I don't see a technical reason why an M.2 drive would be less durable than a USB drive.

Thank for the link, but I noticed that Windows To Go,  isolate the OS booted from USB from the internal Hard Drive of the PC, this is a problem for me (sorry, maybe I did not mention this aim before)   because I wanted to run Windows from USB but have access to internal resources including HDD, to do for instance AV Scanning on all drives from the USB.

Hi McKnife,

Thanks a lot for the details ..

Is there an alternative or a way to run Windows OS from USB and have access to internal resources including HDD  ?
e.g.,  to transfer data, do AV scanning ..

You have access to the internal drive after you open disk management, right click the drive in question and select "online".
