Why my Mobile is not showing as COM3 in Hyperterminal ?

I have tried on 3 machines (Win 7) and 3 mobiles (Android) but only one combination shows up as COM3 in Hyperterminal.
My purpose is to send SMS via Serial port. I can send successfully from this one combination.
I want the others to work too. All mobiles connect to the machine and I can access the Internal and External drives.

By COM3 I mean COM1,2,3,4....

Why you need an Android phone at all?

Your requirement can be easily fulfilled by buying a pocket wifi which can be used as a USB modem to send SMS.

I have kept the same settings in the phones
I have tried with Hyper terminal and also developed a program with Delphi Synapse.

Have you tried a different USB cable? Or the two non working phones on another computer? Does Windows even pick up that something was connected even though it's not installing? My first thought would be checking the communication settings on those two phones.

Allan_FernandesAuthor Commented:
All that works fine. The cable has been checked, the connection option comes up in the mobile when connected. If I choose Files Transfer it shows the internal and external drives of the Android.

Have you seen any exclamation points showing up in Windows? And you are also saying all works fine if you use a different computer for the two mobiles?

Jackie ManCommented:
It is a driver issue.

Not all Android phone can be used as a modem.

Even if the Android phone can be a modem, you need to install driver first.

Which would be the best phone to use as a modem ? I can recommend that to my customers. The usage would be purely for sending SMS. So the simplest mobile that would permit is preferred.

masnrockCommented:
All of the mentioned models can be used as modems. But the issues is whether they are getting properly detected in Windows, which appears to be the root of the problem. Only one out of 4 is getting detected properly. This is why I asked about the exclamation points. There is also a chance that Windows was taking a long time to get the driver. How long were you leaving the phones connected?

Are the Redmi units the exact same model, but with differing versions of Android?

You need to enable usb debugging on your Android phone before you can use the phone as a modem.

Same result.

I am a Delphi Developer and I develop for Mobile's too.
I have tried all these options earlier and have tried again today.
There is something more basic that is needed it seems.

Not true. It is tied to the Android OS and the hardware component of the Android phone.

"SMS via Serial port" is enabled by Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9092.

BLU R1 HD does not have a Qualcomm component whereas Redmi 4 have such Qualcomm component.

However, it is a security threat for Android 6.0.1 or below (vulnerability which is called "Premium SMS Warning") which makes "SMS via Serial port" possible and Google has patched the vulnerability in Android 7.

https://labs.mwrinfosecurity.com/assets/BlogFiles/android-premum-sms-advisory-2016-09-20.pdf

In short, you need an Android phone with Qualcomm component and Android OS 6.0.1 or below if you want to enable "SMS via Serial port".

Does that mean that SMS provision will stop now ?
Let me give a background.
I develop software for Weighbridges which are in remote areas and they do not have regular internet connectivity.
The software needs to send SMS to the Transporters stating the weight of the material.
So SMS are genuine. Please advice best way out.
Can't ask customers to use old Android.
I can tell them to purchase specific brand if required.
