GPS Software

Hi,

I am running a loan business for cars.

I am looking for a GPS software solution that would allow me to monitor each car.   With features that allow me to track the car locations, turn it off, and help me in case to locate the car if the customer does not pay.     Could be web base, monthly payments, safe and secure installations of the device in the car and others features.

  Please send me your recommendations.

  Regards,

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Thinking about your question, a couple of thoughts.  Probably your biggest decision point will be if you really want something that can immobilize the car remotely or not.  That will significantly change the solutions, and increase cost I would say.  Lojack is one of the big players in the immobilization market, but I think they typically need to be installed by dealer or heavily trained technician.  Different cars have different control systems that it has to interface to.  I'm not sure there are a lot of other aftermarket systems that get into that business.

If you just want to track, monitor and get alerted on location changes and perhaps theft, then I think your options open up.  I know Escort has an offering in this space, and I have heard of a couple of others.  The upside is lower cost and easier reuse in a different vehicle.  The downside is only tracking functionality, and also making sure the units aren't located where they can easily be disabled in the car, or removed and left in a place so it looks like the vehicle is there and not moving.

You might also look into some of the manufacturer builtin systems, my BMW has that built in to the car, and I know of things like OnStar.  If your fleet is limited in the number of vehicle manufacturers you might be able to leverage their system in some way, I'm not sure if they partner at all with rental / lease type dealer or not, but maybe worth some checking.

I know this isn't a simple one suggestion product answer you might have wanted, but I wanted to share what came to my mind as I read your question in case it was helpful.  Good luck!
