sql server maintenance plan vs sql server agent


how sql server maintenance plan different from setting sql server agent setting up cleanup at a particular time. Please advise

DB maintenance plans Are SSIS tasks primarily used for backup and Automated DB maintenance.

SQL Server Agent is the jobs Engine.  It has logs and such associated with it, jobs that ran, etc.  it's cleanup is for its logs.

You Create the DB Maintenance plan, if it's set to a schedule, it till become a Job in the Agent as it's the jobs engine.
