I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Use VMware vCenter Converter Standalone and you will convert the server in real time.

Yes, you can combine with Acronis True image universal restore to install it on different hardware. Storage drivers are most important the rest is not because you are going to virtualise it. Storage drivers are the only one you need for the new hardware.

OK. Your Acronis backup is for the current hardware (faulty one). Now even you have this issue you can still install the drivers with Universal Restore tool. Create new bootable USB including Univeral Restore (you can install it on any PC where you have Acronis true image. Than create bootable USB and select the Univeral restore as part of it. Boot the new server with the USB, select the Universal Restore, add the storage driver for the new motherboard and exit the universal restore. Drivers will install in the next start. Let me know if you cannot setup the universal restore bootable I will try doing from my end. I have a licence for desktop only v.2017 and 2018.

0x0000007b means that the system is unable to load a drive that can access the hard drive subsystem. At this point, Windows can proceed no further.

Probably the best bet here would be to load the VMWare tools and drivers onto the old server while it is running on the old hardware, THEM image it. The drivers will be plug and play, so they won't do anything on the old hardware, but they will load on the new image.

One more tip. Find PS2 keyboard and mouse, because if you have the latest motherboard with USB3  only, you will need a driver for USB too (which is a real pain, I've been many times through this).
