UPC Barcode & product Lookup web API

I'm looking for a web API to provide the following functionalities to my application:

1 - Allow users to get product details via scanned barcode  - like this software https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sRGtcaEVR4
2 - If the user can't scan the barcode for some reason, it allows him to search for the product by name as he type.

Thank you!

Okay, here's a few to explore.  We looked briefly at them for a potential product but then went in a different direction.  Perhaps one will meet your needs.

This isn't really an API type system, as you describe it above.

This is an App, you'd write + deploy to user's devices.

Your App would scan bar codes (likely you'd use some sort of library linked into your APP for this).

Then send the barcode to your site to lookup a product. This might be an API you write or just a simple Web link to initiative an order by adding a product to a shopping cart.

If this is your first time developing a project like this, likely best to hire someone to assist you.

This type of App isn't difficult to develop. It will just require a good bit of time to develop.

Are you looking for a full solution, or just a webservice type API that you can use in your code to lookup information related to a UPC/EAN you capture in your application?

Hi Bill,

Thanks for replying.
I’m looking for a webservice-type API to use in my code.

Actually you're looking for an App to run, which might call many APIs.

If you're asking about a Web service, this suggests people are using a Website to scan their barcodes.

The video you provided requires users to purchase a bar code scanning device.

This is how we read bar codes in one of my businesses.

A bar code scanner device (runs from $50-$200+) just scans barcodes + converts them to readable numbers.

If you're talking about having every person purchase a bar scanner, then your project becomes easy.

They just use their purchased bar code scanner to convert bar codes to strings of text to fill in form fields on your Website.

In this case, their's no App + no API + no coding, as the bar code scanner device handles all these details.

Hi David,

This is a mobile app. Barcodes will be scanned via the camera and converted to strings. Then the app will query web APIs like the ones provided by Bill.
