I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

as a non-owner you can't know who created the account..If you know exactly when the account was created then  you'd have to start a legal process of getting the ip address information and enrollment information. Once you have the IP address you would now have have to subpoena the ISP that issued the ip address and get the subscriber information. Finding out who was using a computer at that ip address at the time in question is again difficult.

If you want this information to pursue legal action you might not be able to prove it legally but you can show a preponderance of information that can be used in a civil action.

You can ask the account owner who he/she/it is by email.  Yahoo itself will not give out information without a subpoena or FISA order.

Thank you both, I had a feeling about there being some privacy factors....A friend of mine had an email account created using here name, phone, etc... and she did not do it. Now she's getting hammered with phone calls from all kinds of marketing companies..
I recommended she change her phone # as the easiest solution.
