How to count text records using vb.net?

I have a text file abc.txt.  I need to count the number of records in the file, each of which starts on a new line, so I assume each one ends in a typical return or cr/lf.

is there some type of function or simple vb.net code sequence to do this job?  TIA

One way would be to read the entire file into a string, split the string into an array using the new line character(s), and then find the length of the array.

Just count the number of lines
Dim numberOfLines = File.ReadAllLines("abc.txt").Length
