Extracting date from Timestamp in java

Hi,
java.sql.Timestamp timeStamp;
Currently i am doing timeStamp.toString().split(" ")[0] to extract the date part of the timestamp.
Is there any alternate way. Its surprising that Timestamp itself does not provide any such method.
