External Fingerprint Reader for Docking Station with Laptop (with integrated reader) docked?

I find it very hard to believe it, but nobody seems to have asked or answered this before- spend an hour looking.

I have a laptop with an integrated fingerprint reader- works great with Windows Hello. However, when I dock my laptop, the fingerprint reader is useless, as the lid is closed.  Can I attach a second fingerprint reader, and then use fingerprint on the external reader just as I could with the lid open?

Windows seems to know the lid is closed, so it seems you should be able to use the external reader. I don't want to mess with it until I find out it works, as I recall trying this years ago with the first laptops that Dell had. seems like now that the software is baked into Windows, and not vendor specific, it should work.  What say ya'll?

Thanks,
Kirk

So you can use BOTH of them at the same time- either will accept fingerprint input? It makes sense, but wanted to make sure as I had an issue back in the XP days.
