Copy BBDD from website

Hello,

Hi hired 2 years ago a freelance to develop our web and software whose is hosted in a 3rd party panel (cdmon.com).

The problem is that freelance is missing, and he purchased the domains with his name, leaving us with no control over our web and software.

We have the access to the web app, but no to our web site, we also cant download our data from the webapp to develop another site. We need to take control over our sites.

Is there any way to copy the DDBB from the web app? we are in negotiations with CDMON panel to prove that we are the right owner of the site.

Any tip about all of this will be welcomed.

Kind Regards.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you own the site as a Company, then a verified Company representative (President, Director) can write the domain Registrar and have the domain transferred to you. I am assuming you are the owner.

Given your Spanish name, I'm going to assume that "DDBB" is your use of the Spanish acronym for databases. If I'm incorrect and DDBB is referring to something else (e.g. a product name or something), please clarify.

Next, can you provide us with the site name / URL?

Finally, John Hurst is correct. Domains have three different contacts and if you or your company is listed as any one of those contacts, it should give you sufficient control to request control/ownership of the domain, especially of the original freelancer is not responding to emails.

Getting the domain registered to your company will help you a lot in convincing CDMON.COM that you indeed own the data that they are hosting.  You did a major oops in leaving the registrations and hosting with the developer.  Don't worry you are not alone in this mistake, many people make the mistake and find out after the developer disappears and then they have to go through the pain you're now experiencing. In the future, ensure that the company does all of the actual purchasing and assign the developer an account so they can do their stuff, once the job is done then remove/disable that account.  Examine your contract with the developer and you may be able to force the developer to hand over the keys to you.

If your site hosting is near end, I can recommend you to download it's content (it will be only static, but you will have all necessary structure and  data for building a new site) with something like HTTRACK

the asker really wants his database  and without web  admin access to the website control panel he can't get this

@David: Yes, it is the best solution, but it may not be possible to get administrative account. If they will have content (all images, all pages), any designer can restore site with same or any other CMS. If hosting allocation is near end, site may become unavailable and all content will be lost.

Thx for all the anwsers.

Yes BBDD=database, sorry about this.

The only thing i want to recover is the database with all our data (clients, providers, assets, etc...) other than that is easy to replace.

Some ppl tells me about a non etical solution can be taken, but i want to know that if you have the login to the page (we have, but non administrative) we can download the database or something. Becouse we have access in the web app.

We cannot help with a pirated (non-ethical) approach here, so you need to approach the Registrar as we have suggested above.

Thx John,

I said the same to those ppl who suggested me that kind of solution.

But i am asking about if i already have access to the database, i mean login. there is a way to download the data? (see the point)

You cannot log in if you do not have the credentials. So these need to be reset by access through the Registrar

I will try to explain myself.

We have hosted a web app in CDMON made by a freelance. I can't access the hosting panel wich owner is the freelance (missing). But i can access the web app. Because that app was developed for us. We can access all the data there.

To clarify this, i can take the data one by one, but it will take too much time (months) and i am asking about a way to download the whole database to export into another program. (the point is i have the access, but i want a quick way to take my data and migrate to another program)

Jose: we know nothing about your web app and can't help with it. May be there is some kind of backup, try to find it.
You can give a chance to HTTRACK, it can download data from web app with login and password. If it will be possible, it will be faster then manual copy/paste

Jose, please know that we do not know you personally. Let's assume that you're the valid owner of this site and some hacker wants to break into your site. He comes here and pretends he is the owner (maybe he even changes his display name to "Jose Flores") and gives a story like the one you have provided. Would you want us to give that person any non-ethical (hacking) tips on how to break into your site? Probably not. It is basic social engineering. So really, your best bet here is to establish identity/ownership with CDMON.

I'm assuming that you are paying the bills if it is your site / hosting plan. That should make it fairly easy to establish your identity with CDMON, especially if your name is on the credit card or bank account being used for the payments. It's strange that it would take so long to establish your identity / site ownership with them otherwise.

I would not recommend HTTRACK, since that's just a spidering solution and it will not give you the database data. It will only give you the data that is exposed through the web, but there's no database structure / schema or any rows of data exposed beyond that.

There's also a slim chance that your database is set up to be accessible via the public IP. If you have any emails from CDMON or anything that would indicate some of the early credentials that they provided, you might be able to use something like HeidiSQL to try to connect to the database directly on port 3306 using those credentials.

Thx a lot for your time, I already put a report to local police noticing that the freelance is missing and request CDMON to transfer all hosted pages related to our business to us. Some time is needed to resolve this. But i will close the question here.

Kind regards
