What is vmware Disk Consolidation?

Hello Guys,

I did read about disk consolidation and delete snapshots on vmware docs.
what I understood is consolidation will merge the ALL snapshots into a single snapshot.
whereas delete snapshot can be used to target a specific snapshot.

Please help me here to understand if am wrong.

thank you.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Deleting a snapshot removes that particular snapshot and all more recent ones, resetting the VM to an earlier state.
Consolidating snapshots removes all snapshots after changing the original disk files to contain the most recent data.
So the decision is to commit to either a prior or the most recent VM state.

Please always keep in mind that snapshots are a bad thing, performance-wise ... In general, you shouldn't use them for a pronglonged period of time.
