Can you activate the Ent license on a 4500x switch without uploading the license file?

We had a new 4500x switch that was a boob (bad out of box).  It had and enterprise license however when Cisco replaced they gave us a unit with only IPBASE.  We have obtained the license file and thought there was a way to just copy and past or do CLI activation instead of having to upload the file.  Can this be done in lieu of upload?

As far as I know you can only install via file transfer.  If you run a VSS you need to install on the active first then failover and install on the secondary (now active) chassis, then reload.

No, the license files are tied directly to the device serial number.  You will need to contact TAC again, have them get you to Licensing, have them perform the PAC transfer, re-download the license, post to your router and then activate.  Cisco.  Making your life easier, God bless 'em.

You don't need to transfer the license as Cisco gave it to you to cover the new device.

My bad.   Missed the part about receiving the new license with the router.
