First let's restart IIS ADMIN service through services.msc, see if it helps.
Do you perform any backups of the server?
Have you tried restarting the server?

Hi Ronin,

Not yet as that will take out other web applications residing on that box, that are still currently functioning.

Any other methods other than restarting the service you know off.

Thank you.
Have you looked at the event logs on the server?
According to the message the file became corrupt, but that not necessary really so.

I was facing similar issue before in which the applicationHost.config could be corrupted.

try go to: C:\inetpub\history and see if you able to find an earlier backup for restoration?

OR else you may try to re-install/ reset the IIS.
