iPhone good signal but microphone randomly fails

I have a user that use an Verizon iPhone with 3-4 signal bars on cellular.  The phone the microphone will randomly stop working. He has wifi calling enable too.  Has anyone experience this before?  Also this has happen on this old phone so I believe it is not a hardware problem.  Could is been cause by the phone switching between cellar and WIFI?  any help would be much appreciated.

best regards

I had that with my iPhone SE.  Apple had to replace the phone. That is about the only thing they could do. They tried cleaning , firmware and other suggestions, but ultimately they had to replace it.

Also this has happen on this old phone so I believe it is not a hardware problem.

Why so? Seems to me the older the device the higher probability of a loosened connection or frayed wire. Do you have any hands free devices (ex: Bluetooth headset) that you could use to test w/ the device? If a headset works fine then I'd be even more inclined to think it is a hardware issue specific to the microphone.

Do an iTunes or iCloud backup.

Then, perform a factory reset.

If still the same problem, it is the hardware.

Also, try a different SIM card to check whether the problem is related to Verizon.

Thank you for your feedback, but it seems he was happening on the pervious phone too(iPhone7).  So don't think it a hardware issue at the moment but will get different sim to see if the SIM card was causing the problem.  also not sure if there is a thing switching of wifi calling to cellular that might causing this problem.

Thanks
