Here's a pretty decent <a href="http://dominogavin.blogspot.com/2012/02/how-to-create-auto-response-mail.html" rel="ugc">walk-through</a> of how to create an auto-response mail message in Lotus Notes 8.5.3, it should still be the same methodology for your 9.01 version.

Are you forwarding the messages using a rule in the mail file or using the forwarding field in the address book for starters? <br />
<br />
If you are using the address book then no mail arrives at the mailbox so no mail to auto reply to.<br />
<br />
You could do both from the mailbox itself.<br />

I have been asked to forward mail from a user who has left the company, this is currently working. But I have also been asked to send an auto response from the account being redirected.<br />
