Import MP3 file audiobooks into iPhone X

I have several audio books I would like to put into my iPhone X so I can listen to them on my iPhone.

These audio books have each chapter saved as an .MP3 file.

I have dragged and dropped these files into iTunes and have also attempted to import them from a DVD but when I search for them on my iPhone (by the book or author name) I am unable to find them anywhere.

What is the correct process to use so I can later listen to these audio books on my iPhone X?

To load ALL music into iTunes (mp3, aac etc) .. the iTunes application on OSX is all you'll need
Step 1 .. Open iTunes and connect the iPhone to the Mac
Step 2 .. In the VIEW Menu at the top of the screen ensure that SHOW SIDEBAR is clicked to make it easier to see your device
Step 3 .. Select the iPhone under the Device button and go to the Music section, click the SYNC MUSIC checkbox and you can then opt to copy ALL music or just specific Playlists/Artists/Albums
Step 4 .. Press SYNC button to copy all that music your device

Essentially, syncing audiobook is same as music MP3 file. You might need to add MP3 tag to the files if you want a better search of the audiobook.

Followed these instructions and then created playlists for each audio book.
