Wireless Office Sign

Hi,

I’m looking to either buy or make a very simple screen that can be controlled over the internet.

The screen will serve one simple purpose... show whether an office is VACANT or ENGAGED (i won’t go into the reason we need this :-)

Unfortunately a simple paper flip sign will not suffice.

I’m not even sure what to search for on the internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest you get a quotation from these people.

They have multiple control mechanisms and other features you could add, so this would be a good starting place.

If you are willing to make it, I recommend ESP8266 chip with a relay board exposing a webhook (basically a web address). The relay can either display vacant/engaged on a display (I recommend and e-ink module) or turn on/off a sign.

If this is something you want to try, let me know
We sell IPDisplays to all of our customers. Most are Manufacturing Facilities.
You can Connect a TV to this one: http://www.ipdisplays.com/lcd-products/

Cheap tablets are probably going to be your best bet when it comes to price.

You could put them into kiosk mode and view a webpage specific to that room which has an on/off toggle. That webpage could then report the status to a serverless API or DB or calendar somewhere.
