How can I ensure that my presented question is truly private?  Last year I paid extra for  a premium membership to ensure, and this year this is available for free?

When you ask a question, you can click on the Security icon and see the difference question modes.  This is one:

Private: Question visible only to members and linked to profile.

I don't know what you are looking for but 'Private' questions were developed so that they would not be picked up by the search engines.  It really doesn't mean anything more than that.

Hiding from the search engines really means hiding from the Co-operative search engines.  You can't really hide from ones that don't follow any rules.  They find everything.  Rule Zero is if you don't want it to be found, don't put it Anywhere on the internet.

Basically, when you ask an anonymous question your identity will be completely masked.  A private question is not indexed by search engines like Google, Bing, etc.  It is still searchable on Experts Exchange.
