Lost phone with no passcode

Daughter lost her iPhone 8. We deactivated it at sprint. Found out she had no passcode on it. Can the thief use the phone for anything?  Hoping not so it may be turned in at school.

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Best thing to do is deactivate phone if findmyiphone was on, if icloud was on and it has been reported stolen to apple.

They will deactivate the device and no one will be able to get into it.

Since you deactivated it, then no, a person cannot use it for making phone calls.  It can be used as if it were an iPod Touch without cellular service.

So to answer your question, Yes and No.

I didn't think it was possible to have no password on an iPhone 8?

Did she use her finger/Thumb print instead - this would have required a backup security code.

Findmyiphone was not activated and iCloud was not as well. Does the person have access to her pictures, apps etc?
J HackAuthor Commented:
No she didn’t use her thumbprint

I am afraid, YES.
