PaaS IIS Authentication Error

Hi,

Trying to connect to the IIS to a site hosted in Azure PaaS but I have recently started getting the error which I have attached.

Any help will be appreciated as I cannot access IIS anymore and only make changes via portal and webconfig level.

Thanks,

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Can you create another smallest app service and copy your site content to new one and check whether it's working.
That error popup if you open wrong version of initmgr.exe . it tring to use iis 8.5 instead of 10.

You can try This https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/remote-administration-of-windows-azure-websites-using-iis-manager/

Have you deploy new version to your Azure app service ? or Try to remember the change you have done.

"new version to your Azure app service"

I have not done this, why do I need to do this?

Change wise? well Windows update. I believe this is a known issue with Azure with the recent updates that have caused this issue.

We believe there is an issue with Microsoft, so we are looking to raise a ticket with them. It seems this issue has only started happening since the recent windows update.

Well, Microsoft is ready to help you. You can get help from Azure community forum also.  https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Azure/bd-p/Azure

By the way Have you download your content to local iis and check whether it is working on local iis.

We have raised a ticket with Azure and this is their response:

"Unfortunately you are correct, this is an issue regarding OS 2016. We have currently identified a bug that is preventing users from using IIS remote manager to manage their App Services. Our Product Group is working on resolving this issue, however currently there is not solid ETA."

Therefore this is not a common bug and I now feel that I given back my sanity as I was going mad!!
