Folder redirection
Hi,
I just got a general question about folder redirection.
It’s a windows 2008R2 server. Folder redirection deployed through group policy. There is no roaming profiles.
Does folder redirection means, if a user logs to different computer, he will get same files ?? Is this called folder redirection or is it roaming profiles ?

It's similar to changing the $Path, and yes they are designed for roaming profiles.

Thanks a lot. Very helpful

So, without having roaming profiles, if I just configure folder redirection , still users can go around any computer and get their same files . Am I right ?
To answer your question. Yes, but the user's profiles settings like desktop icon orientation, printers and other settings will not follow the user without Roaming profile. If you only concern is to be able to access My Documents, or Desktop files from any computer on your domain then FRD will meet your needs. I have been using a combination of both for last 7 or more years and it works very well. I do get a corrupted profile every now and then, but that is not tied to FRD and with a corrupted profile I still am able to access the Redirected Folders.

thank you. as you told you use both for several years, i just got an another question .
i got a problem with roaming profiles, it works good for all. except 2 users. whenever they delete files and restart computer it reappears again . do you have any idea why it is ?

I am guessing that this is without FRD enable?
Sounds like the logoff process is not writing the changes back to the roaming profile repository. Have you tested this from other computers to see if the same thing happens?
Where are these files located in the profile?

yes it is just roaming profiles, no folder redirection
yes sync to server while logging off not working.
yes tested by logging to another computer. same thing happens.
files which re appear are in desktop. and profiles are in shared folder in server.

What about setting that you change during the session (e.g wallpaper or default printer). Do those right back to the central repository?
ASKER
yes, wall paper and printers all same. i think at some point, sync to server failed. so from that moment it downloads the old profile. thats y deleting files re appear again. and new documents which are creating in workstation not appearing in server user profile folder.
Did you change the wallpaper logoff and log back to see if the setting stuck?

hi, i tried to login in terminal server which is 2008.. it created a new folder with v2. did some research and found v2 is for server 2008
but when i login in terminal server, user has only one files in desktop, rather in his workstation he got more than 50 files in desktop.
so does roaming files profile differ with differ OS ? i thought even if its different operating system, it will bring up some files everywhere.

These really should be posted as new questions being that it has moved to asking things about setup and configuration vs
Since this is a closed questions most EE's will not even look at the question you are asking
I will be more than happy to post my POV and others can also add to it.
