Impact of renaming specific site name in AD sites and services on Exchange 2010 Autodiscoversitescope.

Guys I am planning to change the Site name via AD sites and services for e.g. from Australia to Brisbane-Australia.

My exchange 2010 Autodiscoverysitescope in CAS server has the existing Site name i.e. Australia. So I want to know what would happen when I rename the AD site from Australia to Brisbane-Australia on Exchange Autodiscoversitescope.

Will it impact it or would the Exchange CAS autodiscoversitescope update itself with the new name.

I've renamed AD sites many times - remember the name you see is simply the display name, the underlying GUID of the object remains the same, Just allow a sensible amount of time for the name change to replicate, i.e. don't be impatient and rename it at both ends!

And no, even though Exchange uses AD infrastructure for its replication I've not seen that affected by site name changes either.

Thanks Pete for that info, so if I understand and try to echo what you say is, site name renaming will be no impact as the GUID is still intact.
But just for my clarity when the rename is done in AD sites and services, and after replication is completed would I see the new name in Autodiscoverysitescope automatically or  I have to just try to rename it with Exchange Shell.

yes it should update to the new display name as its use the GUID behind the scenes and present you with the new friendly name.

you may need to restart the AD Topology service on the exchange server(s) to pick this up

Agreed, All Exchange does it read its information from AD (which is why ADSIEdit is such a great tool for surgically removing bits of Exchange (as long as you know what you are doing!).
