New Distribution Group not showing in GAL

I have a new distribution group is not showing in GAL.

I have run these commands:
get-globaladdresslist | update-globaladdresslist
get-addresslist | update-addresslist
get-offlineaddressbook | update-offlineaddressbook

And I have also verified that the group is not Hidden (I even set the hidden flag and cleared the hidden flag). I have also verified that the group is a Universal | Disibution Group.

What other things can I check or get these to show in OWA or Outlook (not using Cached Exchange Mode).

This is a Exchange 2013 environment.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

How did you create the group?
Can you please expand on your question?
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
Well it was created in EMC and then modified in AD to change the group to be a universal distribution group
yo_beeDirector of Information TechnologyCommented:
Is it a single GAL or multiple?
You may need to wait or force replication.

It is in two gal's (mb_gal and mb_std). It was created three days ago.
MaheshArchitectCommented:
if you create group in EMC, by default its universal only and no need to make it universal again from AD

r u able to locate it from EMC?
Also tro to type complete email address of group in owa / outlook followed by ctrl+k and check if it resolves correctly
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
I know that I can send to the email address and it works. I will try typing full email address and do a check name to see what happens. My guess is that it will resolve as an email address and not as a valid name. But I will test
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
I logged into owa and it was able to do name check off of the email address and it came back with the correct display name.
MaheshArchitectCommented:
now try to resolve by simply name of group

it should also work

Sometimes it may take little more time to resolve names, the reason behind might be heavily loaded exchange server
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
Correct that worked as well
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
Well, we confirmed that I can resolve the name, but how can we get it to show up in the GAL's?
MaheshArchitectCommented:
change outlook GAL to online and see what happens
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
I'm doing this all on OWA, so it's all direct to the server
MaheshArchitectCommented:
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
Not showing up in outlook global address list
MaheshArchitectCommented:
try to download latest OAB on outlook or configure outlook in online mode and check, it should see
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
Outlook is set to Online only (no cached exchange mode)
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
OK, now as a test I enabled Cached Exchange Mode in Outlook and closed Outlook.
Reopened outlook, distribution group still was not showing.
Disabled Cached Exchange Mode and closed Outlook again.
Reopened outlook, distribution group now shows in OWA and Outlook.

Wierd. I shouldn't need to go through this for every client when I create a new distribution group. thoughts?
MaheshArchitectCommented:
no, the best option is to wait.....
as OAB is getting updated / generated only once in 24 HRS unless you forcefully update it.

Now clients will update their copy once every 24 hours or when they restarts Outlook or but they can force the download oab in the Send/Receive menu

Better whenever you create new DL, inform users one day later after creation or inform them that DL will be available 1 day after
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
I think I found the issue.
After creating the DG in the ECP console I needed to go back into AD and add two entries in the "showInAddBook"
CN=MB_GAL,CN=All Global Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=ITS,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=xxxxxx,DC=xxxxxx
CN=MB_STD,CN=All Address Lists,CN=Address Lists Container,CN=ITS,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=xxxxxx,DC=xxxxxx

I then replicated in sites and services and then ran on the Exchange Management Shell (on Exchange Server):
Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.SnapIn;
get-globaladdresslist | update-globaladdresslist
get-addresslist | update-addresslist
get-offlineaddressbook | update-offlineaddressbook

Populated within about 30 mins.

You sound like you have something else going on here.  That is not normal behavior.
Dan SheridanSenior System Eng / vITMAuthor Commented:
I found that attribute that I needed to add in Active Directory Users and Computers. "showInAddressBook".  The two items were not populating.  Once I populated with correct values and I replicated forced a sync they showed up.
