USER ACCESSING AN INTRANET THROUGH MOBILE..

Hi,

We are running an intranet in our organization...now we are thinking to provide the access of our intranet to the users even through their mobile..How can we do this... and is this possible?

Thanks in advance,
Srikanth Nandyala.

Does your organization have a VPN? If you can get a VPN client that's compatible onto the devices, that would be one method.

Another approach, which doesn't involve a VPN, is if you're using something like XenApp, and you can install a XenApp client onto the devices.

Sir,

If any random user wants to access our intranet through their mobile then they should be able to access..We cannot install vpn client software in phone right?

Thanks,
Srikanth.
Part of the answer depends on exactly WHAT you want them to be able to access. But yes, there are VPN applications that can be installed on phones. If you want them to basically be able to do everything as if they were in the office, then a virtual desktop solution like XenApp or Remote Desktop Web Gateway might make the most sense.

So the real question is, what exactly do you want users to be able to do?
Sir,

The exact question is we are running an intranet and through our intranet we maintained a LAN CONNECTIVITY to the officers in our entire district so that they can use my intranet..and they can be able to use the resources which I have provided in that page.. now my question is if some user wants to see the webpage present in my intranet through their mobile..what are necessary steps to follow?

Thanks,
Srikanth.
So I'm going to answer based on the assumption that the intranet site is located in house.

So these users are trying to access intranet pages through their mobile devices while in your offices, correct? My initial assumption was that you meant they wanted to access resources remotely.

The simplest would be a wireless network, but then the question comes up of who owns the mobile devices. Ideally, the organization does, where you have the most control. Then also, your wireless network could be set up such that only organization-owned devices could get onto the network (through the usage of already installed certificates). However, note that this method works its best when there are a lock of security controls really locking down the devices. If users can do whatever they want with the device, then see the next section of this post.

If the devices are owned by the users themselves, security of the devices actually becomes the more immediate topic. If you're going to allow those devices to access your network (presumably on a guest VLAN, which is by far the safest method), you're going to have to have a rule allowing traffic to that site. However, you now have to analyze the risk involved.
You could provide secure access using corporate devices as well as personal devices using BlackBerry Unified Endpoint Manager which is available as a cloud solution, with 1 to 2 servers on print (directory connector and connectivity  node) or fully on-prem.

For iOS and Android devices, with Gold Flex licences (corporate owned) or collaboration suite (personal/BYOD) secure connectivity into your enterprise is included so there is no need for a separate VPN, certificate management etc. it's all part of the solution.
Sir,

The devices are owned by the users themselves(let us assume that my intranet is my office and you are some random user trying to access my intranet in your home and you are no where related to my organization... this is the scenario)..so is their any procedure that they can access securely without any risk for me..?

Thanks,
Srikanth.
Hi,

Do you have a budget for this?

You want some for of BYOD capability - so some form of secure access to you Intranet that enforces Data Loss Prevention controls (I.e. no copy/paste, screenshots, file upload/download) etc.

How many users is it for, are they long time users, what is the concurrency etc.
Sir,

The users are long time but they wont be using my intranet page all the time... only once or thrice they will open my webpage per day..

Thanks,
Srikanth.
