FireFox not downloading PDFs correctly

When downloading a PDF from any sites, Firefox (57.0.4 32 bit) does not recognize it as a pdf, but as a file with no extension.
This means that I have to open the download folder, and open the file, answer the question about the association and then finally view the PDF.
In the past, the file would auto open, or, at worse, click on the downloaded file.

Anyone have any suggestions, work around?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

How about other .pdf files on your PC ?  are you able to open those files without any problem ?

If it's only on Firefox then Save all your bookmarks, passwords, etc and Reset Firefox.
