seeing weird characters from webresponse for bootstrap contents

Maybe the JSON data need to be serialized / desialized.
Or If you are using latin characters on your page then you need to make sure that you save your UTF-8 page using sans BOM.

If the > is in a font that is defined externally, the font file could be blocked. Check the console for errors to see if there were any errors downloading a font file.
Other than that post your code - we can't tell much from screen shots.
