It appears it has a network interface. Can you check your particular model and see if there is an RJ45 jack on the printer. If so, set up the network at the Printer Control Panel and plug it in.

The directions to do this are in the link above.

If no network card, you would need to contact Brother Support and determine if you can add a card (and how much) and if you can add a wireless card (and how much).

They show wireless and wired directions in the manual above.

john hurst,
the cable that connects to the printer is usb.  not RJ45.

I understand, but in the instructions, it says models of that type have wireless and wired capabilities.

If there is no indication of network in your particular model, then it is not there.

In the latter case, it is likely better to get a more modern printer.

You can use something called print server, if your printer doesn't have any kind of network access. They are little expensive though .

Your printer can be wired (as it is) and your computer that prints to it can be wireless. So perhaps it could work that way.

You install the printer driver on your computer. Remove the existing driver, restart, and install the driver again and select the networked printer

That works for me here.

By the way you do not need a printer server at this point.

Print server is used to make normal printers into network. Here is an example

It is networked now according to the above . That made me observe that a print server would not be needed

john,
i unplugged my rj45 network connection an hour ago..  so i'm wifiv and wireless there.  i only have the printer cable and the comp. power cord.  power can go away for a few hours

Or you can get a simple cheap wifi access point then connect your printer network to it, use access point as bridge. I can explain more if you need.

I don't understand why the printer needs to be wireless (it may already have wireless according to the setup document) . It is fixed in place, and plugged into AC. From there, any computer (wireless or wired ) can use the printer.

Does that work for you?

Thanks for the additional information

It should work wired right now and you can check into the printers wireless capabilities at your leisure.

Printers work best wired if you can leave it in on spot

I just realized that your printer has built in wireless, you may have to use brother configuration cd to configure it.
