Migrating a 2012 Sever to a virtual machine (HyperV)

I am being tasked with moving our production web server to a "Cloud" virtual machine.   Is there a way of taking a backup of this machine and using this to load the image to the virtual?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi MAGLOCLEN,
If Azure you copy the VHDx to a Hard disk and ship to Azure. They will upload it in your Azure account.

This depends on what the "cloud" system is.  You seem to think it's Hyper-V - do you control this cloud or is it something like Azure and you're assuming it's Hyper-V?  If it DEFINITELY is Hyper-V, one thing you could do is use the Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter tool to convert to a VM. You'd probably have to setup a Local Hyper-V server first and them convert it to that, but once there, you can simply EXPORT it and then whatever Hyper-V service you're going to use can import.
