Lenovo X270 enter BIOS
How do i get into the bios? It's running Win 10 Home and the fingerprint reader WAS active in Windows but now isn't. I'm wondering if the fingerprint reader has been enabled FOR entering the bios as well, so needs to be used in conjunction with key presses? There's also the issue of the toggling of function keys as well to add to the complexity. I suspect that F1-F12 are not defaulted but what's above IS.
On Lenovo Machines, use F2 to enter the bios, right after turning it on, keep F2 pressed. No, Fingerp. cannot be used to protect your bios.

Sure i tried that. Perhaps i didn't toggle the F2 key ...
With the machine running, restart it. That slows down the start. Press Enter as soon as the Lenovo screen appears. That will get you into Setup (BIOS). I have used it many times.

That sounds cunning. I'll try it when i can get to the box again. Or i'll try it on my own Lenovo (T410)

OK. Enter is good. The problem now is that when i've got into the bios, i'm not allowed to go into the option that should allow UEFI/legacy. When i down-arrow it, that bios option is skipped over
best post some pictures showing the settings

That's not really possible unfortunately
But i've got to say that was quite a weird experience. I can only guess that there's a 'higher' setting saying something like "on no account let this machine be booted in anything other than UEFI"

>> That's not really possible unfortunately << why not? you can easily get a camera, if you don't have one - from a friend
and that's the "normal" setting for UEFI - nothing special, or higher

I'm hardly ever at the box and the owner won't be able to do it. I need to solve this additional problem in order to get to the box again.
and that's the "normal" setting for UEFI - nothing special, or higherAs far as my experience is concerned, you get to choose between legacy and UEFI, sometimes mixed. The setting that appears to be allowing that choice gets skipped over by down/up-arrowing the menu
>> you get to choose between legacy and UEFI, << correct - but some boards name it different, or require another setting to change first
>> the owner won't be able to do it << he can't take a picture and send it to you?? hard to believe these days

I don't want (maybe he doesn't want either) to get the owner to muck about in the bios
(which was my previous point)

i only asked for pictures - that's all - then we can point you to the correct settings
but ok - if he can't - so be it

i only asked for pictures - that's allI certainly don't want to give you any offence ;)
It's just that encouraging a user to muck about in the bios imo is a recipe for disaster
I was rather hoping that someone here might be conversant with later Thinkpad bioses
