Who is Participating?

Hello ThereSystem AdministratorCommented:
The Mail app in Windows 10 doesn’t have an option to export the emails or create a backup of the emails.

However, you can try this work around to make a copy of the emails before the Mail app sync online mail account and deletes the emails. Refer to these steps:

a)      Navigate to the following location:
b)     C:\Users\Username\Appdata\Local\packages\microsoft.Windowscommunicationsapps\Localstate\Indexed\Livecomm\any folder name\any folder name\mail.(C:\ being the drive where Windows is installed)
c)       The app data folder in the above said location is a hidden folder. So, if you are unable to view, change the view options to show hidden files and check.
d)      You will find many folders for each folder in the mail folder (like inbox, sent, drafts). Open these folders and locate the folders that contains the emails.
e)      Copy and paste these email files in the desired location. You will be able to open these files using any email applications.

Probably you are not. Right-click on cmd.exe while holding Shift key. Choose Run As Different User and enter high level admin credentials (domain admin or local admin).

In mail app go to settings (gear symbol in lower left part of the screen). On the right side settings will appear. Go to options and on the bottom and under notifications which were on by default I had to check 'show notification banner'.

Go to Apps and Features -> Find Mail app -> Advanced Options -> Reset

From another discussion:
I had the same problem and here's what worked for me: in (Settings --> Privacy --> Background Apps) enable the calendar app to run in the background. I think that the calendar and mail apps are one of the same.

Make sure your system is up to date: Settings -> Update and security -> Windows Update -> Check for Updates

Download Media Creation Tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
While Windows 10 is running, download this tool and select Run not Save and select Keep Everything.

does the reset cause me to lose any of my emails or personal folders in outlook? also there is an update 1709  version that I can not download because I was told it needs 100GB of storage space in the C Drive which I do not have that much space . It was working before without the update! what does the media creation tool do?

Hello ThereSystem AdministratorCommented:
Before doing anything -> open CMD -> shutdown -r -t 1
This will reboot your computer properly.

Media Creation Tool = non-destructive OS repair
Email Reset - you can export your emails and folders and import them back later

Basem KhawajaClinical PharmacistAuthor Commented:
so does that mean I will lose all my emails and folders?

Hello ThereSystem AdministratorCommented:
Yes. Unless you make a backup.

Basem KhawajaClinical PharmacistAuthor Commented:
do you think that the media creation tool would be sufficient to fix the problem without the email reset? I can not afford to lose my emails and folders and I do not know how to back them up either.

But why is it when I do the update in outlook it shows in arabic not english? how can that be changed? Do you think the Arabic language is the culprit in making the desktop alerts not showing up?
