Esexi5.5

Some of you must have esxi5.5.
I think there is no patch for spectra. If I am correct?
What do you do with that?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes, there are....Patch - ESXi550-201709101-SG*

see here

https://www.vmware.com/us/security/advisories/VMSA-2018-0002.html

BUT, be warned here VMware/Intel have pulled some of the patches, and you will also need to discuss/look at Vendor support for your server, and when it also has a Firmware Update for your BIOS and Microcode Update for Host Server.

To successfully patch, you will need to Patch

1. Host Server BIOS
2. Host Server CPU Microcode
3. Host Server ESXi Hypervisor
4. Guest Machine Virtual Machines

This was also discussed here

https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29076874/meltdown-Spectre-and-VMWare-5-5-and-5-1.html

(but please note, things have been updated since)

Thank you Andrew,  Question about 2 in your  list above . Is it  cpuid.7.edx = "----:00--:----:----:----:----:----:----"    as on the KB article below
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/52345?

I already applied BIOS update and ESXi patch which includes ESXi600-20180140 BG !!
We have not applied the OS patch yet.
I wonder whether we have to add that line in the /etc/vmware/config in our case since we applied that patches for our E5-2600 -V4 CPU host.

This question is to deal with ESXi 5.5, not ESXi 6.0!
