SMB protocol negotiation

We have a Window 10 that has smb protocol negotiation problem. We find that it can establish a smb connection with a multi-function printer for file scanning.

The printer has initial a SMB session with Window 10 and Window 10 firewall has logged the request. However, it never response and no packet is dropped on Window firewall log.

Any idea ?

Thx

It appears to want NetBIOS and SMBv1. Windows 10 does not use SMBv1 any more.

Is the printer old?  Can you try a newer printer with the Windows 10 System.

Does the printer have very up to date Windows 10 Printer drivers?

Canon multifunction printer C5235.

We use the scanning function of the printer to scan to the local PC through SMB protocol. It works on other workstation even though printer driver is not installed.

Thx.

Ask Canon for a newer Windows 10 driver for it and see if that works.

Latest printer drivers has been installed but it doesn't help.

I tried to capture the traffic for a work Window 10 SMB session and compare with the one that fail. I found that the failed workstation reply to the printer with TCP session , rather than SMB. Does it indicate the failed session doesn't reply with SMB. Any idea ??

Thx

Can you test with a different printer to see if the issue is with the Windows 10 Computer or the Printer itself.

I found that the failed workstation reply to the printer with TCP session , rather than SMB.

Consider a non-destructive Repair Install on this problem Windows 10 computer. Keep Everything.

Go to the Media Creation Link

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Windows 10 is running, so click on the Download button (not Upgrade Button, select Open (Run) but NOT Save. Allow the program to run. Allow drivers to update. Then select Keep Everything.

Rebulid the Window 10 but it doesn't help. The printer works prefect on other workstations.

You ran Repair Install and it made no difference - correct?

This printer works perfectly on other computers - are they Windows 10 as well?

Was SMBv1 removed from the problem computer?

Try to use FTP and it works. Seem like SMB is not working on this workstation but I can;t find out the reason.

That is strange because you said you did a Repair Install and SMB works on other computers. Is there networking software on this computer that might interfere?  I cannot think of a specific example but I do not know what is on your computer.

Thx. I setup the workstation with FTP access with the copier instead of SMB.
