Installed Laravel - some questions

I installed Laravel.

I created a virtual host on my computer with the hostname laravel.local.

When I installed Laravel I chose the name sample-application, and when it installed it, it  created a directory in my public directory that was called sample-application.

My question is really dumb, but because of apache mod rewrite, you won't have to move files around to display a page for laravel.local right?

When you install Laravel, it will install the whole package into a folder of your choice. One of the sub-folders of that install will be called public. That's the folder that you should setup your virtual host to serve. So in your case, your Virtual Host's document root should be set up to serve:

/fullpath/to/laravel/sample-application/public/

Then when you visit laravel.local, it will correctly serve up the index.php file from the /public sub-folder

Unless you have used Homestead with vagrant. In that case you should setup Homestead.yaml file (you find a full explanation here).
