Cannot delete emails in Outlook 2016 from Search Results

I'm using Outlook 2016,  I CAN use everything normally (email account is Office 365 Enterprise) EXCEPT when I am looking at emails in the search results (normal Search feature in Outlook), I CANNOT delete normally; messages are getting deleted but continue to remain in the view as if they are still there, and not deleted.  There is no error message, it simply does nothing.  I've set the default search results to "Current Folder", but that's how I've always used it and in 2013 it always worked fine.

Is this happening in OWA/webmail as well ?
Press F5 to refresh folder after delete. Did they disappear as expected?

In that case create a new PST file, copy a few emails into it and try to delete email from the new PST file.

If you are able to do it -> run Scanpst.exe from Outlook 2016: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16 over your bad PST file.
Or just copy all messages to the new one.
