upgrade VM from 5.5 to 6.0

I plan to upgrade my VM environment from 5.5 to 6.0.

Attached shows the version that we have.

I am checking out this link but not sure which demo I should look at.  I do not think PSC is in VM 5.5.

Please advise.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

So you want to upgrade from vSphere 5.5 to 6.0!

1. First STOP and check you have backups of VMs.
2. Second Backup vCenter Server because 50% of upgrades go wrong and fail.
3. Check Hosts are on the HCL.
4.  Check and make sure you know which update to apply.

You will then need the vCenter Server 6.x installation, ISO, insert into CDROM, and run the Setup on your Windows Server, Click Upgrade and follow the prompts.

and I have an EE Article Tutorial here, step by step with screenshots...

We have only one vCenter and a few hosts so I have decided to install vCenter 6 to a new VM.  This action should not affect VM Admins using the existing vCenter to manage our VM environment, right?

I'd also want to take this opportunity to put the database to my SQL server.  Do you have a guide line as for create a database for the new vCenter?

Thanks.

no.

no.

But to be honest with you, now the Appliance has come of age, I would not bother with any of the Windoze Stuff, or SQL database. It's a huge PITA with current Windoze updates all the time to updated every month, and updates break vCenter Server, and upgrades become problematic.....

Just import the Appliance, in the future vCenter for Windows will gradually disappear, as VMware stated in 2015.
