Windows crashes to the blue screen at each start up.
Windows 10 Home, version 1703, build 15063.877
I have tried to upgrade to 1709 and it keeps failing.
This is an asus Q552U notebook. It originally came with 1 TB SATA HD and was replaced with a 500gig SSD. It seems like that may be the culprit as start up always goes to the blue screen where I just click continue and it works.
My main issue is to be able to restart the computer normally and secondary to be able to upgrade windows 10 1709.
At first I thought it may be the nvidia driver and I have downloaded that from the Asus site and reinstalled with no change.
Below are the critical errors.

The blue screen sequence is
Prepare for automatic repair (black asus screen)
Then it goes to the blue, Choose your keyboard layout screen
Finally blue Choose an Option (Continue, Use a device, Troubleshoot, Turn off your PC)
I have tried troubleshoot and no help. If I choose Continue, I get to my login screen.

If you enter Safe Mode... does it happen too?
If yes, bootrec repair commands might help you.

McKnife - try the command i wrote down.
If I run that in an elevated command prompt I get, 'setup' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
If I run it using the run command I am brought to C:\Windows\System32\setup
I have not read through everything here yet and need to leave for a while. I will check back in the next couple of hours. Thank you!

Is there a way to get there manually? The issue I have is there is no setup disc and the recovery was on a separate partition on the original drive. I can hook that old drive up via usb? Otherwise, I'm not sure how to disable dynamicupdate.

HGST 1TB 5400rpm model 5k10000-1000 and I have a USB dongle to access it. (Very slow)
I think I originally used EaseUse to clone the hard drive. I have gone through several SSD drives and on this one I may have done a clean install of windows 10.
For what it is worth, after the issues I have had with SanDisk, I was able to switch out a half dozen other computers to SSD's using a Samsung drive without issue.

If you did a "clean install", you should never have gotten the boot problem unless some other incompatible software or driver caused it. Did that start right after you booted the SSD in the PC?

I am working on it. The problem is the location I am at through the weekend has very slow internet and it may take the better part of the day to finish downloading/installing.
