Can i import photos into Photos on external disk WITHOUT going through OS X?

I need to consolidate a photo from an iPhoto Library into a Photos library.

Is there an utility for this or manual process to achieve this?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Well, if you have a Apple PC that has Mac OS X installed on it, then it would be impossible to add photos to your Photos library without using the OS itself.

However, I feel like I may not be understanding exactly what you are asking for, so I am including a link to an article that describes how to migrate libraries to Photos.

How to transfer ohotos from iPhoto to Photos

Let me know if that doesn't solve your question.

Well it would involve the OS but I do NOT want to IMPORT them.

The Mac has an SSD which is running out of space!

There's no feature in Photos to merge libraries .. but once you CONVERT the old iPhoto Library into a Photos library you can use this software to merge multiple libraries into one

Thanks for great suggestions guys.

Can anybody if an external HDD containing an Photos library is attached to OS X for viewing...

Are they all photos automatically "sucked in" to that particular Photo library then?

Eoin OSullivanConsultantCommented:
No they are not sucked into the default library.  I keep multiple libraries on external HDs and there is no problem opening them to view and edit images.  They have NO impact on the default library file on the HD of your computer.
