Search Problems on Shared O365 Folder

All Mailboxes are O365

All Desktops are Windows 10-Pro 64-bit

All Office Versions are Office 2016 With all patches applied

User 1 Shares his Contact Folder and Shares with 2nd User (See Rights Picture)

There are 1986 Contacts and the Number shows up on both Computers

There are 3 Contacts with the name Welch

When I was Searching for "Welch" on User 2,  I get only 1 contact when I Search on the Home tab under "Find Contact" and get only 2 contacts on the search bar in the Contacts pane.

Why is this happening?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi Joseph,

This is most likely because you are not using the same search method for both users. The search bar ("Upper Search") only searches the native Contacts Folder by default. So when you are searching that way you will only see the user's native Contacts not the shared one, which should be stored in the folder named Contact - <Shared name>. If you navigate to that shared contacts folder and search via the Lower Search you should see the same results.

To inspect & identify where all these contacts are actually located a number of different ways by Contact preview from Upper Search as shown here:Contact Preview via Search or by doubled clicking the contact, then going to File as shown here:Contact > File

I moved the Contacts to another folder on the Host Computer

watch them disappear form the other 3 computers

removed the Shared Rights from all 3 users

Rebooted Computer

Went back into outlook and shared folder again with all rights

moved contacts back to original folder and tested

All Was working Great !!!!

Thanks Blue Street
