alternator replacement for 98 nissan maxima

Trying to find out how to replace my alternator on my 98 maxima. I am trying find a picture that shows the alternator and the placement of the upper support bracket. When removing the old alternator I did not take note of the bracket. The working space was so tight, Having a tough time figuring out where the bracket goes and placement of the replacement alternator. I have been googling for days trying to find a video or picture but can't find one. If someone could point me the right direction Iwould greatly appreciated t.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Generally, alternators fail when the brushes wear down. If your mode of failure was intermittent loss of charging with the "ALT" light flickering, steadily getting worse, then this is almost certainly the problem. Rather than just replace the brushes, most auto electricians will just fit a new alternator, to be certain the problem is resolved. If the brushes are worn, then bearings and everything else are old, and may fail as well.

If it is your own car, however, this is worth looking at. The brushes are usually in a plastic block, together with the regulator. On many cars, it is really simple and easy to replace the regulator, without removing the alternator. Heaps cheaper too!

Below are some pics of a typical regulator removal. Yours will probably be very similar.

Thanks for the info but none of those links addressed my question. I need to see where the alternator support bracket goes on the 98 Nissan Maxima.

Try this site  http://nissanhelp.com/diy/maxima/projects/nissan_maxima_alternator.php

Have a look at Fig 18.  Possibly not the best graphic around and explanation.

Thanks for the link. I saw this previously. The picture is not very clear. The problem is, I already removed the alternator but having trouble trying to install the new one because the alternator and the support bracket do not line up. I compared the new alternator with the old bracket and everything matches. I need a picture to see how the alternator sits.

Maybe put the alternator on your bench, attach the bracket to the alternator and then see if you can fit it in that way.
